The original Question was
not about how to prevent users creating
new topics.

My question for you is: why do you want to prevent them from creating new sub-forums?
You should note that creating a sub-forum is not much different from posting a new topic
Hi
I first want to say - I think Nabble is great! So I hope you see my message as constructive feedback....here goes:
The functionality which enables subscribed & registered members of
my forum to set up
their own sub-forum is so NOT the almost same as creating a New Topic on
my forum!
MyForum is my forum, ie: I set it up.
X is a registered Subscribed User to My Forum
X Forum is a subForum set up by X on MyForum
1) MyForum is created in Nabble - single page, no Sub-Forums required.
2) Set as a Private Forum - only Members can read, post new topics or reply.
3) Subscribed a number of Users who are registered Members (No Admin access). One is named, X.
If X is logged in to MyForum (and sitting on the main (and only) page of Topics as in 1),
they have, under their "Options", a selection "Structure". And under "Structure" the choice to "Create New Sub Forum".
X chooses to create a New Sub Forum in this manner.
Page open up titled:
MyForum - Add Sub ForumX gives the Sub Forum a Name "XForum" and saves it.
XForum is now a sub-Forum of MyForum and appears as such on the MyForum front page 1).
If X goes into XForum, it is set at the default Nabble Forum settings (anyone can view and post, X is the Adminstrator, there are no Members or subscribers (X would have to go about inviting them etc).
Remember - this XForum is attached to own MyForum. And Remember, MyForum is a "Private Members Only" forum.
OK, so now X sets
her XForum to Private.
Now I, the owner/Admin of MyForum, have a subForum attached to MyForum which was created by one of MyForum members, and I have NO ACCESS TO this XForum. I can't view it, post in it or reply. I would have to go about being invited, subscribed and set up as a member by X, in order participate - in a subForum of MY OWN FORUM!!
I do not want MyForum's exclusive members/registered users to be able to create their own exclusive sub-forum which are attached to MyForum. If they want their own Forum, they can go create their own one which is not attached to mine.
Yes, I do see that I can Manage Sub Forums and Delete XForum from MyForum tree.....
But what a palaver to have to do so. If X has set up a sub-Forum by mistake instead of adding new topic, and has posted on the subForum - that posting is lost when I delete the sub Forum. And there is the risk the SubForum won't be set up privately in the first place since X is not 'web / forum design savvy'.
So much simpler to not let my members to create a sub-forum in the first place. By all means, perhaps in their Account profile, give them the links to set up their very own Forum if they want to. Just not let them attach it to mine.
Kind Regards
Anne
