Subject: Re: [SLED] How many people have you attended simultaneously
without lag ?
I've attended music events with up to 100-120 listeners in attendance. However, there was SOME lag AND the events were held at the connecting point(s) across two or four sims (with the music streamed to the land media choices of each).
I think the parameter "without lag" is not possible to meet, perfectly, in ANY SL context, because lag depends on SO many features... many of which are outside the control of the SL event organizer. Users can experience lag due to their slow processors, due to doing other stuff on their machine while they are in SL, due to low bandwidth on their end, due to high usage of the bandwidth that they share with people on their block, and of course, due to a myriad of features within SL (like what's going on else where on the "landmass/server" the sim is on), what avis are wearing and doing, etc. Lag is part-and-parcel of virtual worlds as computer mediated communication. We aren't "in" Second Life; our avatars and viewers are enabled across distributed computational networks. The question isn't about being "without lag," the issue is about answer the question "what are the constructive steps one can take to minimize lag under X environment/circumstances?"
