I bid pretty hard and won the 77 Auto Legend on ebay last night. I don't know but I hope I was not bidding against any of my fellow Compass Forum members here.
If I have made anyone sore I am sorry and I hope we can all be good sports about it.
Having a little guilt here..

Hi John,

That's right you won fair and square,  No need to feel guilty and I did notice you had high bid and it went over what I was willing to pay at the moment,  If I didn't already have one believe me one of us would have paid top dollar :)

Also,  Yesterday found a spare Nautilus S-handle and remembered you had mentioned adding this to your 77 Automatic going with a simple mod instead.   I think you're right this may be the route to take if you do modify your 77 Auto.

With your new 77 Auto Legend,  I use the fastest recovery speed when I use my 77 Legend for this helps the threshold bounce back quickly.  A neat feature to have in areas of poor mineralization or extremely iron trash areas.

Congrats with your new 77 Auto Legend,
Paul (Ca)

You know I have yet to meet a detectorist that I didn't like. Theres just something about this hobby that draws good people to it. I promise if I ever decide to let any of the compass machines go. I will list them here first.

John,

I went through a series of boxes and pulled out some parts one of them a Nautilus s-handle and an old broken Compass,  Followed your idea and applied this idea of yours to see how the setup would feel.

And you're right about the Compass box mounting onto the Nautilus S-handle,   It'll work.  Plus,  The Compass lower shaft easily slides into the S-handle.  It feels a bit lighter and balanced than the Nautilus setup,  A bit top heavy but appears to be usable for long periods.

This quickly arm rest is not something I would use for this type of setup,  I think an arm-rest with a Velcro strap would be better helping keep the arm secure relieving the minor top heavy feel.....As you mentioned you can always easily put it back to stock in case you need to sell.

Great idea!

Paul that looks good on the Nautilus s-rod. Actually better than I imagined it would. Thanks for taking the time to check it out. I have a couple of the Nautilus s-rods they seem to work better on everything than the Nautilus machine. LOL

So true John,

I think even a bread toaster would be lighter on the Nautilus S-handle than an actual Nautilus housing

Anyway,  That was a great idea of yours using a Nautilus s-handle.  No need to drill holes on the Compass housing,  Easily go back to stock setup in a jiffy.
