Hi!

I've just been at the green BOF and it was suggested that we all
subscribe to this list and maybe comment about projects as they come
up.

I didn't mention it in the BOF because it isn't green per se, but I am
a member of Fundación Vía Libre (an Argentine NGO that aims to help
society adopt information technology in such a fashion that core
values such as freedom, equality, independence and democracy don't
become collateral damage of the modernist frenzy). We are currently
working on the subject of electronic voting, trying to point out how
it is not the solution to everything that people are trying to make it
out to be, and along the lines of that our president (Federico Heinz)
wrote

http://www.vialibre.org.ar/2007/09/27/mejorando-la-confianza-en-el-escrutinio/

and we're trying to build a system that does exactly what he proposes
there; the specs are further built out

http://wikis.busaniche.org.ar/index.php/Especificaciones_de_AGUA

unfortunately it is still in Spanish; if there is interest in this I
could translate it into something similar to English.

The gist of the proposal is to build a web site to provide public
access to the raw data used to count the votes, so Concerned Citizens
(TM) can check the results for themselves.

Cheers,

plone versus drupal and web 2.0

Some javascript/style in this post has been disabled (why?)

Hello,

Maybe a strange question to ask this plone ngo users list but I’m wondering if anyone on this list has experience with Drupal?

I would like to revamp a web platform into a more web 2.0-ish platform, facilitating users to create content and collaborate, incorporate widgets from other platforms, and just generally make it a user generated content platform for exchange and collaboration.

I am wondering if Drupal wouldn’t be more suitable because of all the “buzz” I have heard about it lately, but I don’t personally have experience with Drupal.

My web 2.0-ish experience with plone is also limited because I have only been using it as a cms for a corporate website, or as an information management application. I do have experience with plone’s “coreblog” module, which in my experience did not look “bloggish” out-of-the-box at all. A lot of tweaking was necessary to get it looking like a blog. Now I know blogs can take on many shapes, but there is a general stereotype and my audience needs some points of recognition as blogs and wikis and the like are often somewhat new tools for them.

Don’t get me wrong, what I have seen plone do up till now makes me a fan, but in terms of striving to mobilize a community and stimulating them…, reducing the barriers to collaborate and share online as much as possible… is plone equal to drupal in that regard?

Finally, does anyone have personal experience with migrating from plone to another platform? Any migration is tough, but are there specific issues I need to consider? :>

Thank you for your time and feedback!

Nynke

A plone fan
