I just put paper on this topic on my website and thought folks here
might find it interesting. While not in the paper, the differences
*may* be for reasons that effect educational groups as well.
Just so you don't have to go to my site:
In a nutshell- I looked at Second Life, Kaneva, There, IMVU, and real
life and their support groups by type ( Mental Health, Disability,
Abuse, etc...) The amount of groups and memberships for each category
is very similar between worlds. However, there are some differences.
For example. The percentage of groups dealing with disabilities is
smaller than those dealing with mental health for most worlds.
However in Kaneva there are slightly more in the healthcare category.
Why? I don't know, but have opinions on these sorts of things.
