OK---I confess, a few girlfriends and I ditched the hubbies to go see a chick flick last weekend. I must say that I expected something different from what we saw. I expected it to be flimsy but fun and light....some easy chuckles at reflections of myself and my friends in our 20s navigating the dating world...but what I saw was actually rather dark and depressing. Yes, there were a few of those laughs at myself (and women in general)...but there was also more depressing stuff going on (the cheating husband/rigid wife/slutty mistress story). And, even though three of the girls 'get what they want' in the end...the whole journey of getting there is sad and you don't even feel great about it when they win (well, the Jen/Ben story was OK).
Anyway...I'd rate it a C+ (the plus being given only because I like all of the actresses and most of the actors in the movie)...and I definitely would not go to see it if you are looking for a funny movie or a date movie!!
