You guys should consider applying to the Google summer of code program
as a mentoring organization...  http://code.google.com/soc/2008/

The deadline is coming up in early March.

QGIS is a pretty active project with a clean code base (from what I've
seen), so I think a student could make a lot of progress on an
interesting project.

Hi Stefanie

We applied last year too but our application was rejected (in favour
of the umbrella OSGEO application I think). This year we will need to
decide if we want to make an application under the OSGEO umbrella or
go it alone again.

If you or others have ideas for cool projects, it would certainly be a
good idea to add them to our wiki GSOC brainstorm page here:

Regards

Tim
