Here at the University of Virginia, we have devised a Sinatra/GeoExt/
OpenLayers search-browse-discovery interface to GeoNetwork that
operates by consuming the GeoNetwork services. You can see it in
action at:

http://utm.lib.virginia.edu/

and get the code at:

Hi Francesco,
Yes it is definitely possible and is something that has been
implemented already for a number of implementations at clients. We are
now working on getting the support out of the box in GeoNetwork.
Hopefully version 2.6 will see OL as the map viewer.
Ciao,
Jeroen

Hi Jeroen,

This is good news for us. We have outwards HTTP access problems on our web servers. If OpenLayers is used then, I believe, that the call to the WMS, WFS and WCS are from the browser client and not the GN server.  If this is the case then it will solve our external access problem.

Can you confirm that OpenLayers will do the GET and POST using HTTP to the WMS, WFS and WCS in this proposal for GN 2.6?

Thanks.

John

 Dear all

I am working on a research that aspires to enhance spatial web search with semantic web technology and metadata visualisation. I want to implement Ontologies in GeoNetwork and would be interested to know if there is anyone working on the same idea. The idea is to use more information (concepts) in the search other than the traditional keyword based search.

Regards

Juliet

Juliet,

I'm just about to speak to a group of geoscience librarians about ways they might be able to focus their effort on geoinformatics activities, the US Geoscience Information Network (usgin.org<http://usgin.org>) among them.  In this talk, I'll be mentioning GeoNetwork specifically. So while I'm not reporting any ongoing research in this area, I'm A) giving you a vote of encouragement, and B) kindly asking you to keep us all abreast of any progress you make in this area. I'll be watching closely (and if I do my job a decent group of geolibrarians will be as well).

Chris
