Geometry code sprint at FOSS4G

I propose that we hold a FOSS4G code sprint to progress ISO 19107 / GML
3D geometry collaboration (OSGeom) between GeoTools/GeoServer and
deegree communities. See here for more:
http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSS4G_2009_Code_Sprint#Geometry

Current plan is to follow Markus (or at the least, to follow Markus'
plan). :-)

AuScope has secured a venue (Intersect) with approximate capacity of 12
developers that we can use for the geometry sprint on both the Saturday
(official code sprint day) and on Sunday (unofficial extra fun day).

- Who is able and willing to attend?

- What parts of the plan should we aim to complete?

- Should we sprint on Saturday, Sunday, or both?

Kind regards,

Thanks for organising a venue Ben.

Nice outline; there has also been an expression of interest from from
a couple other user communities on this list; so I would change the
"goals" section just to mention the java-collab list :-)

Do you mind if we reduce that email to a series of bullet points? The
discussion in the email gets in the way of what the sprint is set up
to accomplish.

If you don't mind I will forward this to the deegree-devel and udig
lists and see if we can scare up more collaboration.
Landon do you think you could ask on the open jump list (or be able to
attend yourself?).

> - Who is able and willing to attend?

I will be able to attend. I believe Markus is still on vacation and
may not answer for a bit.

> - What parts of the plan should we aim to complete?

Steps 1-3 seem fine; if we are organised we could probably do more
depending on the number of volunteers.

> - Should we sprint on Saturday, Sunday, or both?

I am going to have to get back to you about Saturday; I would like to
talk to talk to udig community about their plans. However if Markus is
in town and is not running a deegree sprint it would be a shame not to
focus on this for two days.

OK, done.

Yes, please. I was going to say feel free to edit the wiki, but that is
the point of a wiki, isn't it?  ;-)

The naughty cut-and-paste was only mean to be a starting point. I have
cut back to the four items. Feel free to cut further (i.e. 4).

Kind regards,

Me me!
Sorry I've not been active on this geom discussion. The topic
is still very much of interest, just overly busy these days.

> - What parts of the plan should we aim to complete?

I cannot answer to this one yet, have to review the messages
in the thread and the status of the geometry modules... if
worst comes to worts I guess I'll have plenty of time on the
plane...

> - Should we sprint on Saturday, Sunday, or both?

Sunday, so that we leave Saturday for other sprinting activities?

Cheers
Andrea

Excellent!

That would be fine by me. I am still open to sprinting on geometry over
both days. We need to give the venue some notice, but we still have a
couple of weeks to decide what we would like to do.

Kind regards,

Hi,
I haven't been following this very tight, since I am not really a
geotools developer.
But I am interested in this and am wondering if I might be useful
during the sprint.
Is there also a part planned were the
trigonometric-mathematic-algorithmic part for the 3d is handled?
Perhaps contribution in this part might be useful?

Ciao
Andrea

Hi Andrea:

You would be very helpful; we do not have many volunteers from the
java-collab list at this point in time.

ok, good to hear. Then I think I will add two of us to the wiki. In
case we can jump off and go to the beach if too many volunteers
appear. :)

We will need all the pizza-eating help we can get.

You can go to the beach only if you can guarantee that your location is
available via WMS in real time.  :-)
