[GRASS-windows] import vector with v.in.ascii

Some javascript/style in this post has been disabled (why?)

Dear users and administrators!

I just started using GRASS and working with it on Windows and QGIS.

I can’t solve the problem of including or installing the module of importing vector files from ascii files.

I can’t manage to get v.in.ascii into my GRASS modules of the GRASS plugin. I got the files of grass-6.2.3 where I can find some files named v.in.ascii but I don’t know what to do further with them.

I would be grateful for your help!

Kind regards,

steffi

What do you mean precisely?
QGIS for Windows contains GRASS including the plugin. As ar as I
know, v.in.ascii is included, too.

Please note that grass-6.2.3 is very old. If you downloaded QGIS for
Windows from here, you get 6.3.0 included:
http://download.qgis.org/downloads.rhtml

Are your data in ASCII format? Or in another format?

Best,
Markus

Where do you search? There should be a GRASS toolbox.

v.in.ascii should be in bin/.
There is a GRASS shell in the toolbox, you can type any GRASS command
there to launch it.

Again, just tp be sure: what file do you want to import? An ASCII table?

Best,
Markus

Of course not. There is also a built-in graphical user interface (see
File-> Import)
and the QGIS interface (at least).

If you want to expand the GRASS toolbox in QGIS, you "simply" need
to expand the related XML file and add an icon. It will be documented
on the QGIS site.

Ah!
That's already a GRASS vector map. Nothing to import at all.

You can just *use* the map by opening this with settings
location: lwd_lambert
mapset: lwd

The vector map name will then appear in the list once you click on
"display vector map" (there is an icon for that, see
 http://mpa.fbk.eu/markus/como2006/img25.html
 -> "GRASS vector maps" icon
)

...and you are done... :)

Best
Markus
