Dear Radhakrishnan,

Thank you for your email. Great things you are doing! I'm forwarding it
on to the OSGeo education group list so others can see what you are doing.

| Dear Mr.Charlie Schweik
| Let me introduce myself. I am Radhakrishnan, Chief Technical Officer
at Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management - Kerala
(IIITM-K, www.iiitmk.ac.in <http://www.iiitmk.ac.in/>). IIITMK is
located in Trivandrum, Kerala State of India. We have done so many
initiatives such as
| projects, workshops and training using FOSSGIS. Now we are completely
switched over to FOSS GIS and we are using almost all the tools of
OSGEO. Also please visit http://www.akmindia.in/agrogis/dhwd1/index.php
| developed using Mapguide Open.

| We are planning to offer a Certificate Course in FOSS GIS. From our
experience, in our State Kerala, we will get overwhelming response to
such courses as ours is FOSS friendly State. Please let us know how
OSGEO can support our efforts in popularizing FOSS GIS.

My suggestions are the following:

1) Consider going to http://www.osgeo.org/education and do what it
suggests there -- add your name to our mailing list, and consider adding
your educational material to our educational inventory database [1, 2].
We hope you will join us!
2) We are trying to develop a system where others can build and enhance
work that others have developed. So you may find some of the materials
listed on our inventory useful for your efforts, or it might be
something you have
developed might be of use to someone else.

Sincerely

Charlie Schweik
for the OSGeo education group

Radhakrishnan:

I am very excited to hear that you are working on a certificate for FOSS
GIS! It is great to see this type of support for open source software in
India. I wish we saw that type of enthusiasm in other places.

Let me know if I can help you with the course in some way. (I
occassionally volunteer for OSGeo, and I work as a programmer on
OpenJUMP.)

I'm sure the other members of the Education Committeee will be
supportive as well.

Thank you very much for your encouraging replies. I have registered in
education list as you have suggested. I will be very glad to submit
the education content to the repository. I am so glad that Mr.Landon
can help us with the course. What I will do, I will send you the draft
syllabus in a few days time. If you can tell me your inputs and how
you can help us, that would be great! Is that OK. Please let me know
your thoughts in this.
By the way please see the link http://www.akmindia.in/agrogis/dhwd1/index.php

Hi Radhakrishnan,

Nice to know about FOSS4G related training activities at
IIIT&M Trivandrum. Particularly so since I began my
research career a long time ago in Trivandrum. Let us know
how we could be of help to promote OSGeo/FOSS4G in
FOSS-Friendly Kerala.

I will be in south India (not in Tvm this time) in
Aug 2009. Perhaps we could catch-up some place while
I am in India.

Best regards

Venka
