Hi Wichert-
This is something we've discussed on and off again for awhile. SteveM is going to be your best source of info on this but I'll give you a quick run down. who owns the copyright? the website footer says the foundation does, >> but there is no contributor agreement for documentation nor a set of >> terms you have to agree to when signing up for a plone.org account, >> which makes me believe the copyright is effectively not owned by the >> foundation but by the contributors. Individual authors own the copyright as it stands right now. >> * what is the intended license? I can not find any information in the >> documentation section itself, the plone license FAQ or anywhere else. We intend to move to one of the Creative Commons licenses. I seem to recall the doc team voted on one of them awhile back. Steve M will have details on this. Our current licensing (or lack of) is not ideal but most authors are very flexible about giving permission to use their content. I usually tell people to contact the author directly and get permission to use the document (preferably in writing). I usually generally ask that if you're going to use documentation off plone.org that you don't charge for it and give credit where credit is due. (So don't turn around, print it up, and sell it as a book, etc) Until we get moved over to a CC license, this is the rule of thumb I tend to go by. Can we help you get permission from authors for the documents you need, Wichert? I'm guessing if you need this for a client then your need is more immediate and you'd prefer not to wait for the doc team to sort out licensing issues.
