Dear Friends,
Please join us for an hour or two of work this Saturday, November 15, at 10:00 a.m. We will be working to repair the damage, (and prevent more), at the Hell's Revenge trail head on Sands Flat Road, just up the road from the entrance to the dump. SITLA is paying for fencing and an expert crew leader - Kara of Wild Landscapes. Red Rock Forests is loaning us some of their equipment and have advised us on this project. (They will be out of town on the work day.) Solutions is seeking up to 20 volunteers to help install fencing at this very abused site. SITLA will provide snacks and Solutions will set up a no-waste table - using real dishes/mugs/etc. to serve them on. We'll also provide compost and recycle buckets.
Any amount of time you can volunteer will be greatly appreciated. If you just want to come and cheer us on, great!
After the repairs are done, we are going to kick
off a "Stay on the Trail" campaign, with our own Sheriff Nyland posing for a poster that will be designed by the extremely gifted Laurel Hagen. The poster, which will be produced by the Travel Council, aims to get all users to stay on the trail and keep it nice for others and for the sake of our fragile and beautiful desert environment. Laurel will create a couple of different designs, and members of the Chamber of Commerce, at a chamber lunch, will vote on their favorite for production. When I have the designs in hand, I'll email them to you for your comments.
We want to get as many agencies and non-profits involved in this effort as possible. We are hoping to create a model for other counties around the state, and answer Governor Huntsman's call to stop the illegal off-trail use. I think most of us realize that none of us will ever get the world we want and that we need to work together to make the world we have as
peaceful and beautiful as possible. Working together, despite our different views on off-road use, is a great step in that direction and will help us find the common ground all humans share.
I am extending this invitation for volunteers to the Grand County Sheriff's Office, Moab City Police, BLM, NPS, Trail Mix, Ride with Respect, and any other group I can think of.
Please forward this email to your friends and invite them to join us. Together, we can make a difference.
Hope to see you Saturday morning.
Sincerely,
Sara
