Hello group:
I am working on a masters thesis in GIS at Penn State. The objective is to use open source web mapping and create a howto for others to follow, which includes installing Linux, apache, PostGIS, MapServer, etc. I have been working in Linux and open source only for a few months and find this very challenging, but fun and addictive! I am not a programmer but have one readily available. I have started a howto which is located at http://www.source3.com/capstone/capstone.php. I want to take my current web map (webgis.source3.com) using OpenLayers and move it into Fusion. Furthermore, it is my understanding that I do not need to install Mapguide OS since I will be using Fusion for MapServer. I have two development machines running Ubuntu Server and HostLinux. I also have a server at HostGIS which runs the HostLinux package (Slackware, MapServer, Apache, GeoServer, PostGIS, etc). I have followed the howto at http://trac.osgeo.org/fusion/wiki/MapServerTutorial on my two development machines and my server at HostGIS. I get the same results, a web page without a map or widgets (toolbars), title block only, as shown at demo.source3.com (http://216.93.173.156/demo). Any assistance is much appreciated. I have searched the user groups and have not figured out my problem. In return, I will create documentation from installing Linux, PostGIS, MapServer, Fusion, Apache, etc for others to follow. I want to eliminate the need to visit four plus websites to look for information. Lastly, I need to present my thesis at a conference. Thinking Foss4G 2009! Thanks for the help. -- andrew _______________________________________________ fusion-users mailing list [hidden email] http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/fusion-users |

Hi Andrew,
you need to subscribe to the mailing list or future emails are not going to get through. You have an extra character in your ApplicationDefinition file right after the MapSet opening tag and before the MapGroup tag. | v <MapSet xsi:type="MapSetType">x <MapGroup id="mapserver" xsi:type="MapType"> Cheers Paul On 24-Oct-08, at 8:21 PM, Andrew Parker wrote: > Hello group: > > I am working on a masters thesis in GIS at Penn State. Thanks Paul:
Removed the x in the ApplicationDefinition.xml file <MapSet xsi:type="MapSetType">x Removing the x had no effect. The x is shown on the tutorial page http://trac.osgeo.org/fusion/wiki/MapServerTutorial I was going to create an account on the OSGEO Trac and correct the tutorial. But I wanted to double check with someone before removing the x. Is this ok with everyone? So my problem continues, a web page without a map or widgets (toolbars), title block only, as shown at demo.source3.com (http://216.93.173.156/demo). Any other suggestions? ~andrew Paul Spencer wrote: > Hi Andrew, > > you need to subscribe to the mailing list or future emails are not > going to get through. > > You have an extra character in your ApplicationDefinition file right > after the MapSet opening tag and before the MapGroup tag. > | > v > <MapSet xsi:type="MapSetType">x > <MapGroup id="mapserver" xsi:type="MapType"> > > Cheers > > Paul > > On 24-Oct-08, at 8:21 PM, Andrew Parker wrote: > >> Hello group: >> >> I am working on a masters thesis in GIS at Penn State. Actually that URL is working now, you are a victim of browser
caching. Clear your cache and reload the page and it will work. Feel free to update the tutorial, thanks :) Cheers Paul On 25-Oct-08, at 9:36 AM, Andrew Parker wrote: > Thanks Paul: > > Removed the x in the ApplicationDefinition.xml file <MapSet > xsi:type="MapSetType">x > > Removing the x had no effect. > > The x is shown on the tutorial page http://trac.osgeo.org/fusion/wiki/MapServerTutorial > > I was going to create an account on the OSGEO Trac and correct the > tutorial. Once again, thanks.
I need to see what is causing my local machine not to clear the cache on my web browsers (Firefox, Opera, Epiphany). I even restarted apache. Hmmm. And holding down the ctrl + reload did not work. Anyway...on to the next problem...pink tiles. Wait...Don't tell me, I saw postings to this problem. I will try to figure it out. Lastly, I will fix the tutorial. ~ andrew Paul Spencer wrote: > Actually that URL is working now, you are a victim of browser > caching. If you use firefix, install the web developer toolbar and use
miscellaneous->clear private data->cache pink tiles ... if you need a hint, check the source of the map image and think about what could be changed in config.json :) Cheers Paul On 25-Oct-08, at 10:40 AM, Andrew Parker wrote: > Once again, thanks. > > I need to see what is causing my local machine not to clear the > cache on my web browsers (Firefox, Opera, Epiphany).
