Fusion 1.1 release

Dear PSC and developers alike,

I would like to propose a release of Fusion geared towards the end of
August.  The release would be a cut of trunk versioned at 1.1.  I propose
either of the following paths for this release:

1) Cut a release immediately from trunk and version it as 1.1

2) Cut an RC immediately from trunk as 1.1 RC1 for testing with final 1.1.
release following shortly thereafter.

This release addresses the following:

- Addition of OpenLayers 2.6
- Allow MapGuide templates to be updated correctly
- Include i18n support in an official release
- Many other enhancements (performance or otherwise) and bug fixes

A change log will be provided with the release.

I'm interested in hearing feedback from anyone interested.  PSC members, if
we consider the two options above we can choose:

a) an immediate 1.1 official release

b) an RC release followed by official 1.1 version

c) no release at this time

Note that this release will not necessarily be indicative of the way we will
want to release future versions of Fusion.  Like many other things we are
currently working at figuring out how best to handle certain aspects of the
project.

I'll begin the vote with a +1 for option b - RC release followed by official
version.

Best regards,
Jason

Great idea, the trunk has surely a lot of bug fixes and improvements. I
vote +1 for the option b.

Before make a RC1, there are 2 tickets that Mike has checked and approved:
http://trac.osgeo.org/fusion/ticket/85 : Legend customization
http://trac.osgeo.org/fusion/ticket/71 : SelectionPanel customization

I think  it would be appreciated by users and us to be able to use these
improvements in the release 1.1. What do you think ?

Thanks,
Alan

+1 option b.

Mike will make a branch for 1.1 and prepare a release candidate today
unless I get a negative vote in the next 4-6 hours

+1 from me.  It will be good to have the OL2.6 functionality in there
before 2.7 s released.

I'd like to also give my (personal, non-voting) +1 to option b: RC today
followed by final release shortly if no issues are found.

Julien is currently on vacation and won't be able to vote himself, so
please count his vote as +0 (by proxy, if that's allowed).

All,

The proposal to cut a new release of Fusion versioned at 1.1 has passed:

Cut an RC immediately from trunk as 1.1 RC1 for testing with an official
1.1. release following shortly thereafter.

PSC
Mike Adair +1
Christ Claydon +1
Jason Fournier +1
Julien Samuel Lacroix +0 (D Morissette proxy vote)
Paul Spencer +1

Developer Community
Alan Boudreault +1
Daniel Morissette +1

A 1.1 branch will be created and an RC released today.

As an aside I think an official revision to the PSC Guidelines
(http://trac.osgeo.org/fusion/wiki/ProjectSteeringCommitteeGuidelines) to
include a provision for proxy voting is a good idea.  I will start a
separate thread for discussion.

Best regards,
Jason

The zip file for Fusion 1.1.0-rc1 is now available on the Fusion Trac:
http://trac.osgeo.org/fusion/wiki/GetIt

Please try it out and report any errors you find.

I just noticed that the release packages are still hosted in Trac. It
may be a good idea to look at hosting the downloads on
http://download.osgeo.org/ like most other OSGeo projects do. You just
need to talk to SAC (or directly to Frank, CC'd) to enable access to
that server for the project.
