Filing an EEOC complaint by RCA

I have been an RCA for 6 yrs now, working on an Aux. route 6 days a week for a while now.  The aux. route pays 3 hrs/day, 18 hrs/week and requires the use of my own vehicle.  Before I was on the aux. route, I used to work over 40 hrs/week, doing anything the management ask me to do.  The reason I am willing to take such a big pay cut is I know RCA serving Aux. route 6 days/week does not require to do extra duties.  However, I do not know why I do not get the same treatment.  I asked all the carriers in my office who worked on Aux. route before, they all said they didn't have to do anything extras.  Unfortunately, there is just one supervisor constantly make me to go back out after I am done with my route, sometimes give me 2 letters, sometimes give me 1 express mail, sometimes 1 piece of parcel.  I explained it to him I want to treat like all the previous carrier serving Aux. route, but he keeps finding excuses to make me do it...like he would say:  "other RCAs are making overtime except you, i am not paying them more, so you need to do it".
Then an incident happpened last week, after I was done with my route, he tried the same trick on me and I was so fed up, I ignored his order and walked out on him.  He is now threatening me with consequence of my action.  I had an investigator interview with him today due to my action last week and he told me he will abolish my route...the only aux. route in our office.
I am going to file an EEOC complaint on him tomorrow.  I am ready do whatever it takes to fight for my rights.  I would like to know does anyone has any suggestion for me?  Thanks for reading.

Regardless of what the other aux route carriers did, they can make you deliver express.

You could have been fired for insubordination and still may be.  You were given an order that was not illegal or immoral.

My advice get a copy of the contract read it and do your job and quit whining.

I do not mind helping to deliver express, and I am not worried about being fired.  After years of hearing and seeing the harrassments and abuses by the management, this is the job I do not regret about losing.
The point is when there are others subs available and they are more than willing to deliver 2 piece of letters, why does a supervisor force a senior subs to do it?
I never ask for more money from the PO, never receive any benefits form the PO, take on a Low paid route to help the PO cut their costs while providing the best customer service to the customers on my route.  All I ask is to be leave alone and let me do my route.  IN return, the management keep pushing me to the wall with UNFAIR TREATMENT.
I AM GOING to do whatever to fight against this TYRANNY.

by all means...stand up for yourself..

I surely hope you had representation during the INvestigative Interview.

Im just wondering tho..why you would NOT want to rake in the easy money and take the express and stuff?
I understand your side of course...but I would snag the green card...and laugh all the way to the bank!!
To err is human...to blame it on someone else shows management potential!

I am ok with the express mail because it's a premium service.  But making a trip just to deliver 2 piece of 1st class letters is ridiculous (forgot to mention I got to go back out with some 3rd class junk before, becasue they said it's late).  I wonder who is the idiot that starts this Local Originated Mail thing.  I thought the PO is in deep financial trouble.  They want to cut our working hours...fine...we took the cut, on the other hand, they waste it on unnecessary stuff, and they want you to do it for them.  It is like telling you not to eat your food, and in turn you need to donate your food to someone else.  What kind of managemnet are we dealing with here?

Hey Slave...
There is another side of this coin that you need to look at.  Some managers like to "take care" of their good subs.  You need to stop and think about this from their stand-point.  Many times, they think that they are doing you a favor by throwing you a bone with some extra hours.  They do not think of it as a punishment for you.  I never looked at it this way until recently...my boss is a good guy and really is only trying to help me out financially.  I know that not all are like this, and in these instances, maybe EEO or the union does need to be involved.

All I have to say is "know your rights", do your job with a smile on your face, and ENJOY what you do.  Remember, always do what you are told, look at it both ways, do the task and then ask questions later.

Hope this helps!

Slave,

The Contract states that a RCA assigned to an Aux route 6 days can not give aux assistance to any other route. They can have you run express and/or parcels. But I will agree that running 2 letters is a bit much.

I'll repeat what others have said. Read the contract. Know your rights. You must follow any order given to you unless it's unsafe or illegal. If they give you an order, obey it. Then grieve it later.
