The Postal Service offered early retirement to 147,937 employees; they were required to make a decision by June 16, with their retirement beginning no later than July 31. Just 2,505 employees accepted the offer — about 1.7 percent.

And so, we get yet another "DUH" moment, courtesy of our genius management at the USPS...

Yea and they expected a lot more, but I knew that many would not take what they were offering..

from the same story

And it’s well below what Postmaster General John Potter expected: In a March interview, Potter said he expected between 10,000 and 15,000 employees to accept the offer.

I bet they are scratching their heads...  and wondering why everyone didnt jump on this wonderful offer..  Geez, they could have asked us..lmao
Never doubt that a small, group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has..

They are offering another VERA effective October 31, 2009 with no incentives.  If they want me gone they will pay me to go!  I would go for about $50K.

rather than saying i'll go for ..., how about giving something for every year served?  if another early out is offered in october, the po would be stupid (already validated though) not to offer SOMETHING!!  the past ver's have proven it WILL take an incentive for us "old timers" to go.....
