Fedora-My - F11 Release Party meeting details

Ok, heres the details of the meeting for those who might missed it (or
was chatting too much to the point they missed it)

Date and Venue
=============

It is generally agreed upon to choose Saito College as the venue for
the event. Tentative date would be 4th of july as anything earlier
would be hard to manage and anything later would be better to wait for
Jim Whitehurst visit to .My. 11th and 12th July clashes with a
different event :P

Activities during the event
===================

Currently suggested activities includes:

 * Install workshop -> Saito college interested to get one whole lab
to be installed with Fedora. So probably we should do a workshop for
some group of people to learn how to setup fedora and later deploy it
in the lab.

 * Talk on new features of Fedora : list of possible topics on what to

 * Sabrina suggested a talk on "What Is Fedora" for people who doesnt
know what fedora is.

 * Other talks suggested by wariola are technical stuff which might be
interesting such as KVM and others.

 * Haresh suggested talks about GIMP as Saito is an art college

 * Party time - not decided whether we will be doing a snack session
at Saito or not.  Several options:
    - get some sponsor for snacks and allow every attendees to join in
during the snack session
    - create a small limited attendee snack session
    - or .. announce that we are all heading to nearby restaurant for
eat!!~ (and go dutch)

Budget
=======
Due to we are unsure about the number of attendee .. no budget yet ..
anyway .. for freebies (which we can try poking Red Hat or Fedora
Community Architecture officer for stuff) here are the suggested
budget:

 * 20 to 30 Fedora 11 LiveCD or DVD (or a mix of both) - nicely
printed with labels and printed sleeves
 * Fedora stickers
 * Some Red Hat souvenirs (pen or lanyards or anything)

If Red Hat do want to support, its also a good idea to request some
flyers from them (both for Fedora and Red Hat marketing) to distribute
to attendees.


Thats it for now, do add if i missed anything .. i'll be updating the
wiki for this event hopefully by tonight or tomoro .. its burning in
here .. el nino sucks ..

Question on LiveCD give aways: are we going to go hack and slash like we
did in MSCOSCONF (burn on demand) or we are attempting to make a proper
CD (e.g. CD/DVD sleeves with artwork, printed labels, etc)? I'll scope
up some printing companies if needed.

can you get details on how much it'll cost if we use the single color
label from here : ?

sleeves we can opt for cheap white paper sleeves ..

Right now we dont have any money for that .. if we can get some
donation or sponsor from somebody, that would be great .. if not, each
of us can put some money to buy a bulk of CD/DVD .. and let u do the
hack-slash like last time :P ..

Razi should have a stamp with Fedora Malaysia on it .. you may want to
ask that for stamping free media sleeves (if we opt to use the
cheap-paper-sleeves) ^-^

Well bro .. especially wariola... meet me this week while I'm still at kL for the rubber stamp. No need for printed CD/DVD... just 'chop' the sleeve because they already know who we are. I hate when people compare fedora and ubuntu with the stupid question "Why fedora just use blank cd??". The answer is it better than you buy Linux Magazine just ONLY for free DVD.

Hey guys, remember the MSC OSCON 2009...we went with blank CD/DVD and people willing to wait for their CD/DVD & meanwhile they ask about fedora etc. Even that we still success.

its a prefered/nice-to-have but not a requirement :) ..

for MSCOSCONF, we have a person there to hack-slash (thankx sniffit!)
and keep people interested ... if for postage freemedia, we dont have
such .. so, including something that make people excited (such as nice
labels) is a nice-to-have ^-^ ..

I was there for the free wifi, power plug and the chance to play with
other laptops. :P

On a more serious note, printed media looks good especially when we hand
out to business individuals like in MSCOSCONF, but for other segments
using a chop won't make a difference. Printed media makes it look good
and go "oh cool an original CD/DVD from Fedora, let's test it out" for
the general public.

Either way, emails are on the way to select people that I know who are
working for the printing companies for labels and sleeves. I did not
include specifics of the requirement, just merely informing them of a
potential job for a total quantity of 100 pieces of
labels/sleeves/stickers with possible long term commitments.

Once I have some positive replies, I will forward these people to
wariola / kage to liase directly.
