Hello,

I have some cases where I need to fade one level into another and I
can't find a way to do with with Audacity.  Fade-in and Fade-out seem
to only fade to or from 0 dB.

One example is a track normalized +20dB and the next normalized to 8
dB.  The levels do not match and the transition is abrupt.

Another example is amplifying some applause down and having abrupt
steps at the ends of the selection.

Thank you!

That's what the envelope tool is for.  I use it for fade-ins and fade-outs
too.  It is a bit more complicated if you are not used to adjusting control
points on bezier curves and such.  Check the documentation.

The envelope tool doesn't use Bezier curves.  It's an exponential
interpolation (linear dB).

FWIW, it's possible to achieve *excellent* results with the envelope
tool.  It's more work, but can give you far superior results to any
automatic crossfade/crossmix.

Irrelevant to my point.  My experience with bezier curve control points made
using the envelope tool totally natural, so I didn't even need to consult
the manual once I figure out which icon activated the tool.  Others without
experience with control points might not find it so natural.  Experience
with control points generally comes from working with bezier nowadays.
That's all I meant.  ;)
