Subject: [CSS] Ordering beans: foodie post to CSS group

Hi all—we’re still having a little technical difficulty with subgroup leaders being able to post to the list, so here’s an update from Kaki on ordering beans:

Barb is leaving around 8:00 am Wed, morning and you can also catch her en-route via cell phone; 435-260-1305

She has offered to pick up stuff in future trips down that way, sooo if you miss this opportunity you will have others.

Here is my improved price comparison of Adobe Milling with the Moonflower.

Okay. This is my logic.
80% of the dryland farmland in the Dove Creek area is organically raised- so technically even the non-certified beans are mostly organic. All the beans at Adobe Milling are from local dry farmed lands.

Non-organic pinto beans cost direct from Adobe Mills:
10# --   $7.50
20# -- $14.00
50# -- $32.50 (about $.65 per pound for the largest bulk price)

Certified organic pintos direct from Adobe Mills:
10# - $13.50 ($1.35 per pound)
(Currently the Moonflower sells Adobe Mills organic pintos @ $.90 per pound from the bin).

Non organic Anasazi beans direct from Adobe Mills cost:
10# - $11.25
20# - $20.00
50# - $48.50 (about $.97 per pound)

Organic Anasazi beans direct from Adobe Mills:
10# - $14.00 ($1.40 perpound)
(Organic Adobe Mills Anasazi beans in the bin @ the Moonflower: $1.35 per pound).

Organic beans are cheaper in price at the Moonflower then they are direct from Adobe Mills. Go figure. So by all means support them if you want certified organic beans.

However, both the non-organic Anasazi and pinto beans are quite a bit cheaper if you are willing to purchase technically non-organic beans.

The Moonflower cannot guarantee prices on bulk purchase and when they run out of the stuff in the bins the prices may go up accordingly.

Good luck deciding.

I am going to order the non-organic pinto and Anasazi beans in 20# bags each just to have some on hand for the future. Beans are grown once a year. Prices may change over time until next year’s crop.

Hi,

I am forwarding this message to as many people as I have in my personal address book to let you all know that we have an offer from Barb Zinn to pick up products from the Adobe Milling Company early tomorrow morning on the 3rd of Dec on her way to Cortez.

So far I have yet to achieve consistent access to the CSS group listing so please forward this to anyone else that you think would be interested in food related activities and group orders. Perhaps I can make an alternate food related listing from CSS for folks that would like to communicated more immediately.

Hi everyone--from Kaki Hunter, Foddies goddess:

Hi CSS people,

This is a link to the current price list of products from Adobe Milling Company in Dove Creek Colorado. I would be willing to drive over there and pick up a bunch of stuff if everyone would chip in to cover my gas.   https://www.anasazibeans.com/cart/view_products.html?Cat=24

Also the Seventh Day in Castle Valley has a bounty of whole wheat berries that they grew this past summer. I bought 50 pounds for $10.00 (about 20 cents a pound tax free). It is not totally organic but it is local and not heavily treated. They are planning on selling it in bulk to the open market so if you want some you better call them and place and order. (What’s there number? I forget what the official name of their school is called) I grind my own wheat berries and make fabulous sour dough bread with it. (See attached image).

Love kaki

Call me if you want beany stuff from Adobe Mills.
