from your postmaster or supervisor, when you need to sign up for fmla you mark it on your leave slip , they should then put it in the computer which will then generate a form to you for the dr to fill out, there is a time limit on returning it , but i cant recall what it is. but its not to short. also make sure you watch all your mail, it comes from a different market company so it doesnt stand out , i actually through mine in the garbage and then had to go dig for it .

got a question-- my husband was rushed to hospital on emergency--I left work after casing all the mail and my sub came in and ran the route (I have a great sub- I can always count on her) The doctor kept my husband hospitalized for the next day. OIC paid me sick leave for the two days I was at the hospital with my husband. Two weeks later in the mail I receive FMLA packet ??? I never requested FMLA. Can someone explain FMLA and should I fill this out and send it in?? The emergency turned out to be okay and not something he will need to return to the hospital for.

I filed for FMLA back in March for hte time I was out due to foot surgery (had the surgery on 12/31.   Only problem I had was the stupid PO didnt' take the doc's return to work date and told me my FMLA was only good up to the date I sent it in.  DUH>     The doc put a Return to work date of APRIL.   I had the forms from the PO before I went out, but didn't send them in till March.  Figured I had enough sick time/AL to cover till beginning of March anyway, so didn't file.  Had no problem with paperwork, so if there IS a date cut-off for filing, I don't know anything about it.   Got the return to work paperwork faxed to me from the PO.   Returned it to my PM, who told me I should have faxed it back.   So, the faxed it for me.  Had no problem  getting back to work.  My PM also told me to take frequent breaks to rest my foot as needed.   I did come back with restrictions, but medical asked PM if he had a problem with them and he said no.   Duh.   the no stairs without railings is a PO thing anyway (at least in our office).   The other restriction was no Sat OT.    Thus, I didn't work Sat until 2nd week of June when my Sup asked me if I was ok to do it     Never used FMLA before and probably won't use it again.

We have a new regime in Dodge that have taken over our office. Anytime a person uses sick leave they are automatically discipline for it.  They also went back a year to justify some of the discipline that was issued.  Is this correct, no.  Do we have to grieve it, yes.  The people that had FMLA absences were considered safe for those dates the rest have been in trouble.  A carrier had a tree fall on his house and was disciplined for failure to be regular in attendance.  You never know what tomorrow will bring to your office so getting an absence covered is not a bad choice.
