Sandy,
Did
you compile Audacity from the source code with V19 of portaudio
selected?
If you
did not do that then what is happening is this:
Your Jack server has grabbed the same i/o devices that Audacity is
trying to access.
Your
choices are:
1. compile audacity with V19 of portaudio
support.
or
2.
shutdown Jack because the default Audacity is not configured for jack
support.

Hello,
When I start audacity I get an error
"initializing i/o audio". Sound works fine. I am using alsa with
jack. In preferences in audacity there are no choices given.
Nothing when I click the dropdown button. I have gone to sound system
hardware and set that to no audio i/o. Also I have tried setting it to
alsa and to jack. All had the same result When I click record I
get this message "Error opening sound device check input device and project
sample rate. I have the sample rate set at 44100 which is needed for another
application that I am using, the Rivendell automation system for radio
stations. Any ideas? Thanks. Sandy
