Hello,
When I start audacity I get an error "initializing i/o audio".  Sound works fine.  I am using alsa with jack.  In preferences in audacity there are no choices given.  Nothing when I click the dropdown button.  I have gone to sound system hardware and set that to no audio i/o.  Also I have tried setting it to alsa and to jack.  All had the same result  When I click record I get this message "Error opening sound device check input device and project sample rate. I have the sample rate set at 44100 which is needed for another application that I am using, the Rivendell automation system for radio stations.  Any ideas?  Thanks.  Sandy Haga

Sandy,

Did you compile Audacity from the source code with V19 of portaudio selected?

If you did not do that then what is happening is this:
Your Jack server has grabbed the same i/o devices that Audacity is trying to access.

Your choices are:

1.  compile audacity with V19 of portaudio support.

or

2. shutdown Jack because the default Audacity is not configured for jack support.

HTH
