EclipseTrader Resurrected?, Esper?

A long time ago (about 2 years ago), I was playing around with an app http://eclipsetrader.sourceforge.net/ and thought it had great potential.  However it never got off the ground and FIX enabled because QuickFIX/J was still in development phases.  Is Photon and Tradebase anyway related to EclispeTrader (I have no Java skills to actually take a look)?  Also, what do you intend to do with Esper - I've been looking at the .NET version of that (but again, I'm only a novice programmer), and see that it would be great to use for custom analytics or alert/trigger mechanisms for algo trading.  Does Photon have a Level II montage?  I only saw 2 test datafeeds in your online documentation.  Is it expected that people build datafeed adapters/plug-ins?

Good open-source stuff, keep up the good work.  I first learned of you from the FPL Algo Workgroup and heard you did some demo app for XML integration into your order ticket.  I guess I have to ditch my VB.NET books, brush up on Ruby and Java, download your app and start looking under your covers.  Very interested.  Thanks.

Hello,

Sorry it took a while to answer your question - it got lost in the
spam folder on our listserver, since apparently you weren't registered
with the mailing list.

No, EclipseTrader is a completely different product, although,
similarly to Photon, it's based on top of Eclipse Rich Client
Framework. EclipseTrader is focused on retail investors, whereas
Marketcetera is addressing professional traders.

That is precisely the goal of the entire Marketcetera Platform - to
make algorithmic development simpler.

Photon has a built-in algorithmic prototyping environment (with Ruby
engine), so that you can write strategies inside Photon (see
http://trac.marketcetera.org/trac.fcgi/wiki/Marketcetera/PhotonScripting
). We are working on integrating Esper so that you can write Esper
queries over incoming messages (from data feeds or execution reports)
and act upon that in your strategies.

We don't have Level-II montage in Photon yet, but we are actively
working on developing data feed adapters right now, such as Activ and
OpenTick. We've built some custom adapters for others as well on
consulting basis, and we have users building their own as well.

While most of Marketcetera is written in Java and Ruby (for
Tradebase), we do have a VB.NET integration path
(http://trac.marketcetera.org/trac.fcgi/wiki/Marketcetera/dotNetSupport
).

You should be able to download the virtual appliance
(http://trac.marketcetera.org/trac.fcgi/wiki/Marketcetera/Appliance )
and Photon and start trading against our simulator.

Let me know if you have any questions
