WACSSO has commented on the Eastern Hills issue. See page 18 of "The West Australian",Tuesday April 26th,2009.

Rob Fry, WACSSO President is quoted as saying:- "Teachers have an ethical responsibility to report to parents...regardless  of what their (EBA) says".

How supportive!!! Why bother to have an EBA if it doesn't mean what it says and can be interpreted to mean anything any bureaucrat would like it to mean. An agreement is an agreement isn't it?! That's ethical.

Not Rob Fry again!  When are these WACSSO wackos ever going to ditch the DET line?  They are obviously too scared to say anything against DET because DET provides them with free office space at Silver City.

The SSTUWA should get on to Rob Fry and tell him to keep out.

The Eastern Hills issue is before the IRC. He should not be making any comment on behalf of WACSSO which might influence the IRC's decision. Who else thinks Rob Fry is out of order?

Rob Fry really is completely out of his depth as a spokesperson. He is just becoming one of those annoying fleas that you ignore and eventually flatten with pesticide. If parents wish to know how their child is going then keep in regular contact with your child's teachers. Anyone who needs a semester report and an interim report to work out how their child is achieving needs to take a long hard look at their involvement in educating their child.
How many times would the guru like us to report? Twice in forty weeks plus regular meetings with teachers is certainly enough and a fair assessment load.
I trust you realise Rob Fry that all teachers have no respect for your viewpoint and as such you only strengthen our resolve.  We will not be bullied or cajoled in to working harder based on your ridiculous , out of step , anti teacher sentiments.

I am still waiting for a bit of positivity toward the incredible job we do.

When is this person going to be replaced with someone of substance with an understanding of the role of teachers.?Aren't we all supposed to be working together for the betterment of children and education generally? Let us teach and we will get the job done.

My guess would be that the media always ask Mr Fry for comment because he can be counted on to say something (stupid) that makes a good newspaper quote.

Rob Fry needs to know when to shut up - agreed he is quoted because he can always be relied upon to say something that is anti teacher. He makes all the right noises in front of teachers but really hasn't a clue about anything to do with eduaction. He always speaks as he thinks the parent body would expect him to speak.I seriously doubt he has a clue about the EBA at all.

I really wonder about the West and the general committment to Education .I remember them quoting Fry about stupid names that parents are giving kids and he made some inane comment about bullying. We all remember his unfortunate statement when he used the words 'teachers' and 'lazy' in the same sentence and said he was quoted out of context!

Rob Fry should keep his mouth shut, whilst the matter is before the Industrial Relations Court.  I wonder how many parents he surveyed in order to get the information he supplied to the media.?

Go and Fry a kite,

oops, I hope I'm not setting an early low standard on this forum. I promise to play the ball not the man in future, most of the time.

Good to have met some of you at the picket.

I don't have a problem with Rob Fry being quoted - but he makes himself to look like a fool; uninformed about what teachers do.

To general members of the public:
Please be advised that DET teachers DO report to parents in Term 1!  The better administrators organise reporting within the parameters of the GA (was EBA) i.e. teachers hold informal one-on-one interviews with parents, AFTER SCHOOL HOURS.  (The GA allows for up to 2 out-of-hours meetings to informally report on students' progress - and these usually take place in Term 1 and Term 3.)

To Mr Fry:  It's all there - you just have to know what is going on!  (It's called being informed, which clearly, you are NOT!)  An embarrassing gaff, methinks, if you were quoted as is reported here.

It seems to me if some administrators are forcing teachers to write formal reports, it is because THEY don't want to stay the few extra hours after school, not the teachers!!!!!

Here is a more accurate rendition of the newspaper headings:

PRINCIPALS REFUSING TO ALLOW TEACHERS TO REPORT TO PARENTS!

Every comment from Rob Fry is seemingly misquoted because nobody can seriously purport to be a spokesperson if they are as badly informed as he is. Anything eminating from this man goes straight to the education gaffe section and it ends up in a total loss of credibility. I want teachers and parents to work together. This man gives parents a bad name when I for example have a fantastic group of totally supportive parents. Time for retirement Rob. You are an embarrassment to parents everywhere.Get your facts right or keep quiet.

Rob is Director of the Hedland TAFE. I assume he, as a parent, has had some experience with the school system and this is why he is head of WACSSO.

I ask Rob: "Do TAFE teachers provide interim reports to parents? When does the 'ethical' requirement end?"

Is any one surprised by Fry's comments? The sooner he vacates his chair the better off we'll all be.
Let's take this issue to the May Day Rally tomorrow,  it kicks off Sunday at 12 o'clock Fremantle Esplanade. Let's celebrate unionism;magine our lives without one! Bring your placards. We don't want to look weak, I'm sure Serich and Co will be watching.
