EMA tied to USPS cost per mile
YOUR NAME Craig B Waitman

ISSUES EMA
MANUAL OR DOCUMENT YOU WANT TO CHANGE. LEAVE BLANK IF NONE OR YOU ARE NOT SURE
YOUR IDEA OR CHANGE Why not tie EMA in with the figures the postal service advertises as their cost per mile. I would not expect 100% of their cost. I do not drive a semi truck, but I cannot by my vehicle at fleet rates either. If their costs go up 20% per mile to get the mail delivered, I'd like my EMA to go up 20% also.
WHY DO YOU WANT TO CHANGE IT The current system requires rural carriers to unfairly bear the burden of increased costs at the benefit of the USPS. Our most recent EMA increase of .05 only covers about half of my increase in just gas costs since the last adjustment. I'm only talking about route gas consumption. With DPS, changes in values for flats and letters during mail count, and increased parcels, I cannot get a smaller vehicle and still have enough room to carry my entire route out every day.
Never doubt that a small, group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has..
