ADJUSTMENT OF EMA RATE TO 53 CENTS PER MILE

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has released the November 2008 CPI-W Private Transportation Index. Based on this release, the Equipment Maintenance Allowance (EMA) will decrease by 12 cents to 53.0 cents per mile.

Therefore, in accordance with the provisions of Article 9, Section 2.J.3 of the USPS/NRLCA National Agreement, effective January 3, 2009 (Pay Period 2-09), the Equipment Maintenance Allowance (EMA) will decrease from 65.0 cents per mile to 53.0 cents per mile, or a minimum of $21.20 per day, whichever is greater.

Auxiliary Rural Carriers, Rural Carrier Reliefs, Rural Carrier Associates, Rural Carrier Part-Time Flexibles, and Auxiliary Assistance

Employees providing auxiliary assistance or serving auxiliary routes under the provisions of Article 9, Section 2.J.5, will receive EMA of 53.0 cents per mile or $5.90 per hour, whichever is greater. The EMA will not exceed the amount provided in the special EMA chart for route stops and miles.

I could finally fill my tank and eat in the same week....gonna need brakes soon...

The NRLCA HAS to come up with a better way to calculate EMA.  Like....pay us what it costs to run an LLV maybe???

 SICK SICK SICK OF IT!!!!!

I second that!  I keep my EMA money seperate from all other money.  It is always barely enough to cover the cost of gas, insurance and maintenance.  Hmmm....how do I pay for a new vehicle when I need it??  Oh, yeah, from my own pocket!

I heard the price of oil went up. I guess they are slowing production to bring the price up. So , for the next however many weeks, we will be paying more and getting less. Like that is a new concept???!!!! I will be losing almost 11 dollars a day, 110 a pay check. That adds up to the new set of tires and the brakes I need to replace, plus what ever else comes around for repairs! After count , I may need to borrow money to keep my car on the road.

I am sure we, the rurals are going to be the ones to take the hit for the USPS. I am not sure how this will come out, but it won't be in our favor. We are too efficient for our own good.
