EARLY OUT APPROVED FOR RURAL CARRIERS

In early July the NRLCA was notified that the Postal Service had filed an application with OPM requesting permission to offer early outs to employees in the rural letter carrier, city letter carrier, motor vehicle and maintenance crafts.

Today we received notification from the Postal Service that they have received approval from OPM to offer Voluntary Early Retirement (VER) to rural letter carriers. No details have been released at this time, but as soon as details become available we will advise the membership

Any word on whether maintenance people were included in this eo?  I see carriers and postmasters were approved also but don't know where to go to find out about maintenance.

Even though they are offering early outs, it has to first meet the criterea of at least 50 years with 20 years of credible time or is that subject to change depending on what OPM decides.  Is that true?

Ok, a friend of mine got a letter....she's past MRA and has the 20 years.

All the letter said was that should COULD voluntarily retire and showed what she had earned, etc. No mention of EARLY out or anything...

I hope that's not IT! She thinks maybe they're trying to push people out the door before they make a real offer.

Cuz if thats it its a f'in joke!

underdog, I got the same mailing.

First part reads,

According to payroll records, your are covered by FERS and you meet the age & service requirements for an optional voluntary retirement under FERS. Therefore, you are being provided with an annuity estimate. The estimate is not intended to encourage you to retire, but rather to provide you with information to help you in your financial planning. Your decision to retire is purely a personal one.

That sounds like it...she passed MRA a year or two ago.

 Very strange.

After you reach the minimum to retire, they send you that kind of annuity estimate about every year or six months. It is NOT "the" letter.

logic, I think you're right, since the VER "timeline" on the liteblue site says that annuity estimates will be mailed to VER eligible employees on Oct. 10.
