I wanted to take a quick moment to let everyone know about the progress
of the CPE Dictionary. As some of you may have heard, NIST has
volunteered to help stand-up a very robust first pass at the
dictionary. They are working to convert their current product list
over to CPE format and then release this to the community. I know they
are getting close to finishing their first pass and will soon be
submitting a draft copy which we will use to update the draft
dictionary on the CPE web site.
The goal we have is that this draft will continue to be worked on over
the next couple of months and its quality will continue to improve to a
the point that we can release it as an official dictionary with the
release of CPE 2.0.
Once we have the next draft, we will work on some procedures for
allowing help in enhancing the quality of the names before the official
release. We know the draft will contain some errors and we also know
that there are other product dictionaries that can be leveraged to help
enhance the information available from NIST. Please stay tuned ...
We look forward to the release of this draft and thank NIST for all of
their work.
Thanks
Drew
