(For reasons I don't understand, this message does not seem to be getting to the mailing list). I've subscribed already.
I intend to use Audacity to transfer many vinyl albums to CD. I've done one successfully with one amplifier feeding line-out to line in on a Soundblaster card.
I bought a used receiver to do these albumss that only has tape out (no line out). When I feed this into the line-in port of the Soundblaster, it generates a relatively low signal on the audio track graphic, even with all settings at maximum (volume in control and Audacity record control). The only way I can get the signal up sufficiently is to take speaker out into the line-in jack of the soundblaster with the volume turned down, and that doesn't seem like a good way to do this (extra amplifier, etc).
So I tried something else. If I take the same tape out signal from the receiver and run it into the microphone-in jack of the Soundblaster card, it works fine with Audacity (good output on the audio track graphic). I do NOT have the microphone set to do a +20db boost option, so that isn't why I'm getting better signal.
Is there any problem or risk for me to just use the microphone-in port on the Soundblaster from the receiver's tape out port for what I'm doing?
Thanks in advance for your advice.
