Hi, guys, I checked the FAQ but this question is too basic, I guess! I have windows XP with enough memory for either download, but do I need the Beta, or the other choice for Windows?

Thanks,
Jan Baker

As it says on:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/features-1.3-a

"Audacity 1.3 is an unstable, beta version of Audacity. Users who want a
completely stable, finished program should be using Audacity 1.2. Audacity
1.3 has hundreds of new features, but some features may be incomplete
or confusing, it is more likely to crash, and you are more likely to lose data.
You can install both Audacity 1.2 and 1.3 on the same machine, if you install
them to different directories."

So have a look at that link and look at the features in the Beta that are not
in the stable program. If you particularly need one of those features for what
you want to use Audacity for, then try the Beta. It does have a crash recovery
system to recover lost data if it does crash, which 1.2 does not have. The only
thing you need to be aware of is that if you create an Audacity Project in 1.3,
you won't be able to open that Project in 1.2 if you decide to go back to the
stable version.

You sure wrote a clear answer! It is almost as if you actually read my email! This is sufficiently rare that I am moved to say thank you!
