Different menu items for local chapter pages

Dear All,

I finally trying to put some content in the UK local chapter section of the main website, as kindly agreed a couple of months ago. I notice that the site keeps the same menus to the left and right of the main content, regardless of what page you are on. I assume that is a fixed rule, correct?

If so, I'd like some advice on how to design my UK-specific pages so that there are links available to UK content. I can include a "table of contents" on the main home page but after that it might get a little tricky to navigate around the "sub-site" without having to go back to "local chapters/United Kingdom" in the left-hand menu.

Any suggestions appreciated! Also, is there a link to style guidelines for the website other than the logo?

Thanks

Jo

Not exactly. A block (a menu or box) can be given some conditions (like
for instance parts of page urls) which when evaluated to true reults in
the block being displayed.

If you tell me the menu and the pages where it should show I can set it
up for you. Hopefully all those pages are under the same "directory",
but that is not mandatory.

Not to my knowledge. The current style is more or less the result of it
happening. There is an alternate theme called OSGeo2, which is less white.

Hi Wolf,

Many thanks- that's very encouraging. I'll finish creating the pages (which will all be in the same "directory", ie under www.osgeo.org/uk) then let you know.

Thanks again

Hi Jo, glad to see you are adding some pages for the chapter.   It
would be interesting to have a slightly different theme for local
chapters, but as Wolf noted, there's nothing at the moment.  After
there is actually some content, then perhaps talking about further
customisation would be useful.

Yes that would be nice. I'll have to research how to put a custom top
graphic to the OSGeo2 theme based on page url for instance.

Hi Wolf,

I have added some content to the UK chapter pages now: http://www.osgeo.org/uk

There is a provisional set of links at the bottom of the home page that I would like to see as a menu, and they are all under the ./uk "directory", eg http://www.osgeo.org/uk/mailing_list, with the exception of two wiki pages. It would be nice to include links to those but if it's tricky that's not essential.

I will be adding a couple of extra pages, but again they will all fall under the same ./uk directory- so if you could show me how to add them to the block/menu once it's set up that would be great.

Many thanks for your help

Jo

Hi Jo,

Sorry for the delay... I've been a bit busy so I missed your response.
Anyway it is now done. When you do add more pages, before you save you
can scroll down to the "Menu Settings", expand it and set the parent
item to "UK Local Chapter" and it will show up in the menu. (Tip:
there are a lot of entries in the parent menu dropdown, but the UK
Local Chapter is the first one startng with a 'U', so you can press
the 'U' key and it should jump to this entry.)

As always, if you have any problems, don't hesitate to ask for help.
