Deegree CSW problem with injection of metadata XML with reference to external SDI services

Dear colleagues,

We are testing a newly developed AGI SDI Server operating system which
has (among other components) Deegree 2.2 software pre-installed. This
open source customized Linux operating system is part of FP7 Geoland2
project activities.

Some Geoland2 data providers have special requests for publishing their
metadata on centralized repositories, which means that we have to
establish CSW services capable of storing and serving metadata records
referring to "external" SDI services and files.

Project partners from Belgium have used Deegree 2.2 CSW as a back-end
application for development of an SDI-portal for the project and
prepared an XML metadata file with references to external services for
testing purposes, but I have difficulties injecting this XML file into a
standard Deegree 2.2 CSW setup. There is a standard
ServiceExceptionReport issued by the system:
<ServiceExceptionReport>
  <ServiceException locator="OGCRequestFactory">
    Specified service 'unknown' is not a known OGC service type.
  </ServiceException>
</ServiceExceptionReport>

Could you please try to inject the metadata XML (attached) into your CSW
servers and comment if it works for you. Also, could you please look at
the file and give me and advice on what should be the CSW configuration
to make it work. The testing server is located at:
http://sdi.agi.lt:8080/deegree-csw/
If someone would like to look at the configuration files, I'd be happy
to provide full access to it over ssh (just let me know).

Thank you in advance :)

My best regards,

Gedas Vaitkus

Hi,

I made a test inserting your example dataset and a problem with field
length of one of the elements. Unfortunately postgis does not tell which
field it is. The only output is that a string exceeds allowed length for
a database field of type VARCHAR(50).Because deegree CSW uses several
fields defined as VARCHAR(50) it is not so easy to say which one causes
the problem. So I simply set all fields defined as VARCHAR(50) to
VARCHAR(500) and after restart of the CSW everything works.
This may not be an elegant solution but it works and possibly you find
the time to identify the field responsible for your problem.

best regards

ANDREAS

Hi,

my testing system is:

Windows Vista
Java 1.5
Tomcat 6.0
Postgis 1.3.5 for Postgres 8.3
deegree 2.2 CSW downloaded from
http://download.deegree.org/deegree2.2/deegree-csw_v2_2.zip
(in addition also WMS and WFS are running within same Tomact but
different web contexts)

The only thing I change - as explained yesterdas - was one of the
installation scripts for the database (create_database.sql). I changed
all VARCHAR(50) into VARCHAR(500). As explained: this is not very nice
but it demonstrates that your dataset is OK - except one field/element
which conatins a string having more characters than we assumed it must have.

Because http://demo.deegree.org/deegree-csw/ uses a database installed
with the standard scripts (using VARCHAR(50) for several fields) your
dataset can not be inserted there.

best regards

ANDREAS
