I am converting a stereo track to mono by:

1. Splitting the Stereo track
2. Making both tracks mono
3. Applying Quick Mix

This approach works except for one problem:

The resulting mono track is clipped, I guess, because
the sum of R+L becomes too loud.  Even if I normalize
it, dynamics appear to suffer.

What to do?

The best way to handle this would be to reduce the tracks by 6 dB after
splitting to mono. Just use the level control for each track, found on the
left of the track to set to: "Gain: -6 dB". Then when you quick mix, it is
guaranteed to not clip.

This would be something I'd like to do also, but where is this "Quick Mix"?

Quick Mix is the sixth item down on the Project menu.

Thanks  a lot,  I'd never have guessed it there.
