Hi

This list is specifically for discussing the Audacity implementation of
the Nyquist programming language (Audacity includes a number of
Nyquist plug-ins and many more can be downloaded).

Converting a recording of notes being played (like WAV) into a
notes-based format like MIDI means detecting the pitch of all
the parts of the recording. Except possibly for recordings of a
single part, this is beyond the ability of most current techniques.
There are some programs that attempt it listed below. Have not
checked all the links very recently, but Google if any links are
dead.

Here are our Audacity lists:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/contact/lists

-users list is the most appropriate for general interest, but at the
moment it is not working properly I'm afraid.

Hello Sir...!

Thanx for replying me fast.
I got some more doubts..

1. Can we format an Audio File with the file name extension .sng to MID

2. What is Minus one programe ? I heard it is  deleting a Vocal track from a music disk file and using it as MID file...How can we do that...? Do we need any software for that..?

3.Can we convert the commercially available KARAOKE music
data ( must be in WAV format ) in to MID format...? If so how...?

Pls write when U R free....

Thanx again 4 Ur reply...

Regards..
Herman Fernandez.

Fernandez

Audacity does not support notes-based formats like MIDI (except for
merely being able to display MIDI), so it can't help you much (and as I
tried to explain, this list is not an appropriate place to discuss it).
In brief reply:

1. There are a lot of questions on the internet about "convert the
proprietary SNG sequencer file format to MIDI". As far as I know
SNG does not even contain any notes data, just mixing/editing data.
So it may be a question of using sequencer software that supports
both SNG and MIDI. Edit Track will save (at least, one of its own)
SNG files to MIDI and vice versa, according to this page:
http://tamw.atari-users.net/editrk.htm

2 Do you mean:
http://www.softsland.com/band_minus_one.html

3 I gave you a list of WAV to MIDI converters last time (see again
below).

I know almost nothing about karaoke and sequencer files, I just
got the above from searching Google.

Note you can always as a last resort convert in the other direction
(to WAV) any file including MIDI which you can play on your computer,
by recording it as it plays:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=recording&i=streaming

Let's close this discussion now, as it is very off-topic. There are many
good sites on the internet to learn about general (video and) audio
file conversion, for example:

Several programs that will do this were mentioned recently in the
yahoo group bbshoptech. This is a yahoo group which you will find at
groups.yahoo.com. Look at recent posts of say the last 4 weeks and you
should find this. I will mention that converting from .wav to .mid is
very difficult and hard to get right. It is somewhat like unscrambling
an omelet and hoping to get eggs back. I don't know how successful
these programs are. It will depend a lot on the sound quality and
which instruments are in the recording.

This is not an Audacity question and it is really really not a
audacity-nyquist question so you will be annoying people if you keep
asking related questions on this list now that this has been explained
to you. This information can be found by anyone willing work with
google a while. We are trying to be helpful and guide you to better
places to ask these questions. Please don't abuse people who are
trying to help you by following up with more inappropriate questions.
The first off topic question will usually be considered an honest
mistake. The second question on the same subject demonstrates simple
rudeness.
