This is a very silly and expensive proposal that could further the economic problems currently being faced by the USPS. Not only will it be expensive for the Postal Servie, but it would add duties for all carriers that they may not be compensated for. We are not obligated to perform duties that are not clearly spelled out in our respective contracts (city and rural).
I have been waiting for more information through the news and this forum, and have not heard anyting since I first learn of this.
Need up to date info on what is really going on in the world? Listen to Dr. Stan Monteith on http://www.radioliberty.com.
Silly and expensive - the government is going to spend that money regardless of who gets it. Why not allow the postal service to do the job. You have already done the background checks etc. Would you rather people off the street did this stuff? People who might be casing people's houses?
Quite honestly, I think it is a smart proposal. From here on out let Postal workers who AREN'T GETTING HOURS do the census every 10 years. It would help be a buffer over the next year or two protecting junior workers jobs. It could very easily keep the massive layoff from happening when the contracts run out.
As far as the contract goes, allow the workers who want to work do it. There are still people that need work. National unemployment nearing 10%.
i agree...i think it's a great idea for the usps to do the census, the money is going to go somewhere, why not have it coming into the usps and making us a little more "secure"?
In previous censuses, we have received a pack of address cards, and been told to case them, then separate the active deliveries from the inactive (vacant, demolished, etc.)
