If you use Apple iCal 3.x with Chandler Hub, please be aware of the following issues before upgrading your operating system:

First use of Apple iCal 4.0 with Cosmo: fails to find CalDAV servers for hub.chandlerproject.org, and reports no calendar home for the user
<https://bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12861>

Following upgrade from Mac OS X 10.5.8 to 10.6: iCal 4.0 can no longer write to Chandler Hub
<https://bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12863>
-- in other words, the iCal view of the Hub becomes read-only.

If you use Chandler Desktop 1.0.3 on Mac OS X, please be aware that it may not launch in 10.6. Part of the work in progress towards a compatible version is captured in <https://bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12860>.

An update from Mac OS X 10.6 to 10.6.1 makes no change to the version of iCal 4.0 (1362) and still, iCal can not write to Cosmo CalDAV service.

Both bugs have been cross-posted to Apple. Details in OSAF Bugzilla.

I now have a patched version of Chandler Desktop that seems to work fine with Mac OS X 10.6 build 10A432.

Expect a built version to be made available in due course.

Big thanks to Grant Baillie and George Kyriazis in bug 12860.

Off-list, and outside of Bugzilla, we received a request for a step-by-step workaround.

If you upgraded to Snow Leopard despite the published incompatibility, and if you can't wait for an official build of Chandler Desktop, then you might try the following — but please understand that this configuration may be _unsupported_. The usual, in this type of situation: no guarantees, take greater than usual care with backups, be prepared to walk yourself through a restore routine if things go wrong, etc..

That said, here goes:

1. The usual URL for downloads is <http://chandlerproject.org/download> but for once, let's use a snapshot from <http://builds.osafoundation.org/chandler/snapshots/1.0.3.1/>.

2. Copy the application to your hard disk.

3. Select the copy. Control-click to Show Package Contents. Once inside the package, browse to:

Contents/MacOS

4. Download and unzip the file that is attached to this message, but do not attempt to open the end result.

5. Replace the ChandlerApp at Contents/MacOS with the ChandlerApp that you downloaded at step (4)

6. remove or move the four files mentioned at
<https://bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12860#c18>

7. close the Finder window(s) to the internals of the package

8. launch your patched copy of Chandler in the usual way.

<https://bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12879> details a failure to restore from backup.chex

If you patch a snapshot of the application to work with Snow Leopard, be very well prepared to deal with surprises such as this.

Maybe, worse than read-only; iCal fails to show additions to the Hub (additions made using clients other than iCal) and fails to alert/warn the user that anything is missing. Discussion: <http://n2.nabble.com/-tp3858240p3864897.html>.
