In her Online Opinion piece, Jenny Allum is critical of reasons given for the need of a N C, and also of the method used for selecting experts to make the important decisions.

A national curriculum is not necessarily an excellent curriculum

She points out that, Education being a state responsiblity, the process is almost doomed because..."political compromise will never result in educational excellence!"

Her conclusion is,......"A national curriculum is not necessarily an excellent curriculum, especially if developed with little consultation or funding and on an unrealistic timeline."

The use of OBE style 'eduspeak' should be denounced. Some teachers have gone 'overboard' trying to use the 'eduspeak'.  In doing so, they have lost sight of what education of our young people is about. It seems to me these people have also demonstrated they do not know what they are doing.

Worth a look:

The higher you go in any profession the less in touch with reality you become. This holds for all professions and teaching is no different. The majority of people in charge of guiding our national curriculum will be experts who have not taught at the coalface for 20 + years.Of course the smattering of real teachers will get a say before the mad professors and Education icons like our New York guru overide sensible debate.

Parent, our dumb ass union supports the National Curriculum. We can now kiss goodbye our capacity to influence the education agenda. It will be a case of spot the difference between the National Curriculum and OBE. There won't be any and it will be implemented in the same fashion.

What's Liz constable up to, anyone know. What does she have to say about this?
