I searched the forums if there is a way to execute Audacity from command line and it was stated that it can't however it was considered in the future. Those posts were a few years old has there been any chnage to that? All I need to do is create a sample (30sec) from an exisiting mp3. Of course there a alot of tools for me to do this manaully but I am building a web app which enables users to upload tracks and was looking for a way to create the sample track on the server after they upload the full track. i can call executables from my web app as I have my own server that runs the site. If anyone knows of any command line app that can cut a track can you please let me know. There was a reference to SoX and I have beed looking around the site for info but couldn't find any functions to cut a track. perhaps there is and I can't find it. Thanks Axe

You could try dbpoweramp using the "Grabber" DSP effect, not free, but will do many other DSP's as well:
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/developer-cli-encoder.htm

Or amongst free options, something like MP3DirectCut (lossless):
http://mpesch3.de1.cc/mp3dc.html

or mpgcut:
http://mpgcut.sourceforge.net/

or maybe similar programs on Sourceforge.
