This is from Alan VerValin. He will be submitting these in his state and urges you to do so if you would like to use them.
PRESENT LANGUAGE:None.
There presently exists no language in the Constitution and Bylaws which would prohibit a change in format, and the present format for Caucus Night is extremely inefficient, costly and spread out in many different locations:
PROPOSED LANGUAGE: that Caucus Night be held on the main Convention floor, with all delegates in attendance therein. All candidtes running for national office, (starting with those runnung for President, followed by in order, Vice-President, Secretary/Treasurer, Director of Labor Relations, Director of Steward Operations, and Executive Committeemen) shall have 5 minutes each to address the delegates. At the conclusion of the Candidates addresses, the meeting will be opened to questions from the floor for the Candidates to respond to. For this question and answer period, delegates wishing to ask questions of the candidates will proceed to floor microphones for this purpose. Questions will alternate between these microphones until the delegates have no further questions of the candidates. The Caucus Night activities will be presided over by the President of the State Association in the state where the National Convention is held.
INTENT OF / REASON FOR CHANGE: to assure that all delegates hear the same information from each of the candidates at the same time and to insure that this final job interview for those who wish to represent us as National Officers is as exhaustive and detailed as the delegates so desire. Further, to avoid the costs associated with additional Caucus locations when the main Convention hall is large enough to accomodate all members wishing to attend Caucus night.
Never doubt that a small, group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.
Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has..
