Can we run 32 bit QGIS runtime(built from source) on 64 bit machine?

Is it possible to install and run 32 bit QGIS runtime build on 64 bit platform(with OS as RHEL for 64 bit m/c)? If no, then why and what are the reasons? Kindly somebody clarify.
