Here is a link to the OIG audit of the Carrier Optimal Routing system:

http://www.uspsoig.gov/foia_files/DR-AR-10-001.pdf

We heard about this project on the chat site one night. It appears to be a system to computerize routes to come up with the "best fit" (optimal) way of setting up & delivering routes.

Note the comments on problems with the system:

a. The COR system was not initially user friendly and the data preparation process
is labor intensive and time consuming.

b. Dedicated district personnel are sometimes not selected and trained as COR
system subject matter experts.

c. Postal Service Headquarters did not mandate tracking of mileage changes in the
issued policy memorandums.

Though the Post Office doesn't seem to be able to identify "savings" associated with this program, I'd hazard a guess that it's a done deal.

Button, button, who's got a button??

It is already being used on several city routes right here in Ohio.  Initially there were problems but once they were ironed out it supposedly made routes more efficient and in several cases actually eliminated a couple of routes in larger offices.  This was actually implemented 2 years (or more) ago.

According to one district person I spoke with it is supposedly to be used on rural routes at some point in time.

It is kind of like "Mapquest" for routes.

Now I understand why the district is putting GPS in the LLV's.

Here's probably way more info on COR and route adjustments than most will care to read, but a version of this is sure to come our way in the near future:
