From down under...

G'day Klaxxon

Firstly, thank you for everything in the past.  You have provided my family with 100's of hrs of entertainment!  Cheers

I am going through the process of ripping al my dvd's to avi's so that I can give something back to the community as well as to watch avi's from my WD hdtv...

Heres the problem -

I can not get the image on my rips any bigger than 720 x 504.  I have a Samsung 1080p HDTV and everything appears in the centre of the screen & black bars around it which I don't want to crop.

I have tried using:

- ImToo dvd ripper Ultimate; picture is fantastic however to small for the size of my tv
- Magic dvd ripper; Picture show up pretty much full size but lacks quality in imaging
- DVD Shrink & divx converter; for some reason even on divx's 1080 setting it streches the image from top to bottom leaving black bars on the side
- About to try using 'dvd decrypter' followed by 'auto gk' as suggested by a forum.

I spent for ever (it seems) trying different settings & configs but cant get it to work.  I'm going nuts!!!

I guess my questions are

- Which software/process do you guys use for ripping?
- Will this give a max image quality fior 1080p hd tv?
- Is there a config I may be missing? e.g- bitrates etc

Any help would be greeeeeeeatly appreciated & apologies for the long winded explination :(

Cheers - ducer1

Hi all,

After 27 views, I am guessing either that:

a) it is a touchy issue and may get people into an ass load of trouble

b) No one can disclose their secrets and if they did, they would have to kidnap me then either give me a frontal lobotomy or kill me

c) this topic has the easiest answer possible so everyone thinks that I am a n00b and can't be bothered answering me

d) It is not possible to get a normal dvd to rip to a 1080 hd size so that I can watch rips of my own dvd's in fantastic quality on my big screen tv.

At the moment I am heading towards (b) but unless someone can give me a little bit of a heads up, I will never know what the right answer is

Cheers, ducer

You ask "Will this give a max image quality fior 1080p hd tv?"  You can't add detail. Whatever settings someone could or might post will result in an image that will be worse than 720x480 as you can't take a 720x480 source, and increase the resolution to 1920x1080 and expect it to look better.

Hi Enar,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I kind of already thought/knew that you can't take a smaller image and turn it into a big one and expect dvd quality movies.

Just thought that possibly a higher bitrate or an app that I may not know about may give a sharper image. By the sounds of it, it can't be done.

Any idea which software/apps the top uploaders actually use??

Maybe I'll just rip to vob for home use and rip with Magic dvd to avi for uploading.

cheers, ducer

I don't know what they use but CloneDVD Mobile (from Slysoft) does the job very well (read about it here http://www.slysoft.com/en/clonedvd-mobile.html ). If you buy software go ahead and buy it, if you don't buy software but download via bit torrent client get it here http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4515257/Slysoft_AiO_-_v103.97.56.32_[h33t]_-MasterUploader

CloneDVD (Slysoft) is also an excellent program to rip DVD's but it needs AnyDVD (Slysoft) running to strip off the copy protection in real time. It's included in the download above which btw has the following programs

AnyDVD HD v6.4.8.4 [beta]
CloneDVD2 v2.9.2.0
CloneDVDmobile v1.2.0.1
CloneCD v5.3.1.3
Virtual CloneDrive v5.4.1.2 [beta]
GameJackal Pro v3.1.1.5 [beta]
GameJackal Enterprise v3.1.1.2

You need to have DIVX installed (don't buy any of their software just download the free Windows version - I'm assuming you use Windows - here http://www.divx.com/en/products/software/windows/divx ).

There are a couple of Easy ways to rip your DVD's to AVI ie. XVID or DIVX
You should as a beginner use  AutoGordianKnot.2.55 its a very easy program to use and it will give you the results your looking for, its user friendly and just follow the guides its simple, you should also use dvd-shrink or simular to rip the dvd to your hard drive as you only want the main movie and audio and not all the extra's you can download it here Autogordian here http://www.autogk.me.uk/modules.php?name=Downloads

I Recomend to rip your dvd to hard drive with DVD-Shrink and use the re-author fuction and NO COMPRESSION as you want to full movie to when you convert it to avi you get the best result
and run AutoGordianKnot.2.55 and your done Happy Ripping.

You can also use SimpleDivX or Fairuse there both simple user friendly programs aswell

These Programs are an all in one method for ripping i personaly use Autogordian as its easy ,simple, and never givin me a bad rip yet

HOpe this helps in your quest to rip movies
