Hello,

I've been reading the LP documentation, but I have some really newbie questions about it that I'm not quite getting an answer to.

When you install LP, are all languages magically available to your site, or do you have to specifically say "I want to turn on French, Spanish and Swahili?"

Does it differentiate between Spanish from Spain vs Spanish from Mexico vs Spanish from Guatemala? If not, can I override the base Spanish stuff to be regionally correct?

Does it magically translate my content? I assume no, since there is a mysterious i18ndude app out there. Speaking of which, I can't figure out how to install it. I have not found any directions on how to install yet... I'm on Mac OSX and a bit new to python and don't how to use eggs.

Many thanks!

By the way, I do see this in the documentation, but I don't understand what this means. Also, what is the Cheese Shop?

You can simply install it via "easy_install i18ndude".

Some small refinements to setup.py. i18ndude is now registered in the
Cheese Shop and you can get the current development version just by
      typing 'easy_install i18ndude' :)

in your plone contol panel there should be a language configuration
settings where you can decide which languages are supported in your site.

There is a setting to whether these should be honored. I don't quite
know the effect it has for language negotiation, though.

LP doesnt translate content. Neither does i18ndude. i18ndude helps you
find untranslated strings in your templates ( say if you are building a
product) to make for easier translation of user-interfaces.

To follow up on my earlier newbie questions on LinguaPlone and i18ndude:

I want to remove the internationalization flags that display and simply add a menu item to my portaltabs area that alternates between English and Spanish, depending on what language you currently have selected. Is there an easy, out of the box way to do this?

I need a way to easily send files to people in Guatemala and have them understand clearly what needs to be translated. I thought that i18ndude would allow me to do this, and I have it installed (well, I installed the egg successfully), but I don't know what to do with it. Can someone shed some light on this?

Also, I hear that there is a product out there called POEdit that might help out, but I have yet to locate that product anywhere. This is the only reference I have found:

http://www.vslavik.nextradsl.cz/tmp/poedit-test-build.zip (Per Alexander, "Try this early early alpha build, has to be run from the command line, and  might crash on you")

Not to mention, I'm still trying to figure out where the mysterious .po files are hiding...

Thanks,

- Veda
