Hi all,

I must be missing something with the banzai example.

When going thru the initial connection to the server, where do I need to set the password  so that the session can be logged in.  I realize it's not in the properties file, but somewhere I need to login.  For the heartbeat, I added a line to the toAdmin method to set the pwd.  I can't tell if it successfully logged in, but I know that the pwd is included.

If anyone can suggest a different example to work with, it would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

Chris,

What are you logging in to? If you are connecting to the Executor
sample app, then you don't need a password.

Are you connecting to a broker that requires a password to be set?

Thanks for the quick response.

I am using the GUI within the QuickfixJ examples, called Banzai.  I am connecting to brokerage MB Trading and they require a pwd.

Any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated.

Chris, Banzai is an example GUI meant to talk with the example server, the Executor.  As Toli said, the Executor doesn't require a password.

The use of authorization within FIX is idiosyncratic to each broker and their dialect of FIX, so you will need to modify the example to generate the proper messages and handshake as well as to read the password from someplace.  You will need to modify the Banzai code to add the new message or fields used by MB Trading to pass the authentication information.

This is certainly how I started out as well, so it seems a little cookbook on this would probably be useful for the website.

Try adding something similar below to the toAdmin() method in your Application class:

      MsgType msgType = new MsgType();

      try { message.getHeader().getField(msgType); }catch (FieldNotFound e1){}

      if(msgType.valueEquals(MsgType.LOGON))

      {

            // Get session password and put it in logon message

            String password = ...

            message.setString(Password.FIELD, password);

      }

I store the password in the config file so I use the SessionSettings class to retreive it.

Hope this helps.
