FYI

I started backporting proj 4.6.1 to bpo - which fixes the datum shifts issue for lenny.
My own idea is minimally backporting also gdal 1.5.4 and grass 6.4 with the grass plugin.
After that I would move in sid currently experimental packages (mainly gdal 1.6 series).
In the meantime I would also prepare the final version of the HDF5 library.

It would be nice if people would note here if they are interested in backporting
other relevant packages (maybe mapserver or postgis?)

In compiling QGIS and GRASS for Lenny (for the debian.gfoss.it
repository) I found useful to backport the following packages:

  * proj
  * geos
  * gdal
  * libgdal-grass
  * spatialite

Dear Francesco,
thanks for Your work. From my point of view, I am currently backporting (recompiling You packages from Sid) Mapserver 5.2.2 packages for my company's internal use. There are lot of important patches missing in Lenny's package. I think also moving to tilecache 2.10 and latest PostGIS. It would be great to have them in official backports, since none of us is really experienced. I would welcome to have grass 6.4, gdal and proj in backports. So my answer to last question is: Yes please, can You also create at least backports of Mapserver packages ?

Ivan

Both proj 4.6.1 and geos 3.1.0 are now pending for inclusion in backports.org.
