| Subject: [Audacity-help] Audacity
| I was trying to edit a sound from my new camcorder & it made a
| white sound.i think the problem is that Audacity cannot decode ac3.
| will it have this option soon or at all?
There could be support for AC3 at some future time as AC3 encoding and
decoding support is included in the free LGPL licensed libavcodec library
which is part of the FFmpeg project. However to support AC3 properly we
would need proper multichannel export and playback support which is still
under development.
I have added your vote for AC3 support to our user-editable Feature Requests
Wiki page here:
http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Feature_Requests#Imports_and_ExportsPlease feel free to visit that page and add your vote for any of the other listed
requests.
Meantime the following programs:
SuperPlayer (Windows)
http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html#DnloadFFMPEGX (OS X)
http://www.ffmpegx.com/or mplayer (Linux)
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/news.htmlwill convert AC3 files to WAV files and so enable them to be imported into
Audacity.
