| Subject: [Audacity-help] Audacity 1.2.6
| This program was delivered along with de DJtech USB turntable that
| I bought .
| After installing this software it sometimes works out allright, and
| sometimes it does not.
| Opening the program repeatingly results in a blank option for
| choosing the input (Microphone / Stereo Mix): it is grey and stays that way.
| The messages I get are:
|
| Audacity error: Can't set value of
| 'HKCU\software\audacity\locale\language' (error 5: access is denied)
| after clicking details: 'Failed to create a temporary file name' (error
| 267:the directory name is invalid)
|
| Closing down the program: 'can't set value of
| HKCU\software\audacity\audacity\windows\maximize' (error 5: access
| is denied)
| My OS is Windows XP Pro - SP2.
| Several times of uninstall and reinstall did not help.
When you are recording into Audacity with the USB turntable set as
"recording device" in the Audio I/O tab of Preferences, the Mixer Toolbar
will be greyed out. This is normal and should not prevent you recording
from the turntable or create problems.
Concerning the error messages, you may have corruption in your Preferences
file so I would suggest deleting it in the Windows Registry. Exit Audacity then
go to the Windows Registry which is accessed by clicking Start > Run then
typing "regedit" (without quotes). Be sure to back up the Windows Registry
before modifying it, or simply create a restore point in System Restore before
deleting your Audacity Preferences. To access System Restore, click Start >
All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.
Then navigate in the Registry to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Audacity\
and delete the key so that no Audacity Preferences are visible in the right-hand
window. When you restart Audacity you will start with Preferences as shipped
and will be asked to choose your language again. Let us know if that cures the
error messages. If not, are you running Audacity as an administrator, or are
you on a network?
