Hi guys,
I've been thinking it may be nice to get going with a Python UG meeting. As
I'm myself located in Auckland, I'd of course be interested in a meetup right
here.
Any other interested folks? Any date suggestions? I think there were meetings
already in the past before I joined, so I'd be interested whether something
has been established by common use already.
As a topic for it I'd like to suggest Python-native code hybrid developments.
There's quite some demand for that here in our computer science department,
and I may therefore be even able to drag along quite a few to get them
involved as well. We could probably split the task up to get a few short
presentations to that topic up and flying. It would probably revolve around
Python with C/C++ using boost.Python, auto-generating wrappers using Py++,
building the beast using SCons, and showcasing some nifty results. Maybe even
an outlook on how to use the stuff on parallel/distributed systems with
ParallelPython to circumvent the problem of the GIL (global interpreter lock)
on multi core systems.
Comments on that? Any other volunteers for other topics or to add further
angles on the suggested one?
Guy
