About 3 weeks ago Bob grazed the back of one of his lower legs, racing around off lead. We bandaged him up and a few days later it had healed nicely; clean and pink.

Then he hooned about again-opened it up- we bandaged it- it healed- he opened it up again by nibbling it.

This circle of heal then open it up again has continued now for 3 weeks. There's no sign of infection and we've trimmed the hair away to stop it sticking into the wound when he licks it.

Tonight I took the bandage off to let the air get to it, left him for a few minutes then found saw he'd pulled all the skin off, he then sat and shook for a few minutes and it's bleeding again.

I've bandaged it up again, but it's not going to heal unless we can get the air to it.

How on earth do I get it to heal?

My whippet scraped his elbow and kept re-opening the wound by licking. He even chewed through the bandages twice. Eventually, I think he managed to get it infected and the only treatment was antibiotics. However, there was a lotion which you can apply to deter them licking, (I think it's bitter apple?)

Thanks for that. He's opened it up again today  Stupid animal. It's still clean and uninfected (for now at least)

Hi you could try putting a breathable dressing on and tapping it on with micropore, it shouldn't stick to bad to Bobs hair. You can get both from chemists and aren't expensive, we use them at work (hospital) and if he doesn't rip it off it should heal fine. I swear by Sudocrem, antiseptic cream, its really good stuff. Hope this helps x

Hi Murphy's Mam and Dad. Thanks for that.

I am looking at a sleeping hound at the moment with a HUGE blue bandage on his paw. I've tried meolin and micropore- that was ok for a while, then he worked out how to pull the tape off.

Today I bought some vetwrap from Farmway- the lady asked if I had a horse! Almost said I, much to her amusement. So far he's left it alone and because it's got holes in it the air can get through and it should heal

They both like the taste of germaline, sudacream and especially vaseline.... they are just the original awkward patients
