Greetings,
Please join us for an informal 'show and tell' with Adrian Freed from CNMAT.
http://people/
Adrian will cover the following projects and more:
- uOSC (http://cnmat.berkeley.edu/research/uosc)
uOSC is our platform for symbolic labeling and time tagging of
continuous sensor/actuator control streams.
I will show how a common flaw in people's understanding of sampling is
responsible for widespread errors in gesture acquisition
systems and how we avoid this in uOSC.
- Our spherical speaker array which synthesizes narrow beams of sound that can be moved
smoothly and independently in space using a fixed, discrete set of loudspeakers (120).
- Hybridization and timbre
(http://cnmat.berkeley.edu/group/research_timbre_and_hybridization)
My hybridization interfaces use tilings of low dimensional continuous
control spaces on higher dimensional parameters spaces. With a good formulation we can
interpolate smoothly with parameters we usually think of as discrete such as meter
and pitch.
- Etextile and resources for interactive arts
(http://cnmat.berkeley.edu/resources)
-eTextiles are interesting because we can build with non rectangular forms over curved surfaces.
I will show an annular pressure sensor used to measure bow pressure to illustrate this.
.............
As part of the exchange, TML members Navid Navab and Laura Emelianoff will also share recent work in audio and interaction.
See you there!
